Saturday Ride Report for the 2005 Autumn Meet

We woke up to rain hammering down outside but soon change to heavy showers, so after everyone had breakfast and unlock or got their bikes out of their cars, we headed up the valley and were soon pushing our bikes up some of the steeper climbs, then so enjoy a freewheel down to the valley below to join Route 8 of the national cycle network coming up from Dolgellau. We follow Route 8 up the valley and soon Sharon and  Andrew left us headed down to the coast. We continue along Route 8 which follow old coach route through the mountains (tarmac in places put mainly a white road), we soon dropping down to the hamlet of Bryn-gwyn, where we stop take some our water proofs off. We then followed the Afon Dysynni up the valley and stopping look at Birds Rock, then continue up the valley to Abergynolwyn where we stop at newly open cafe in the community centre which was being officially being open that day.

After our refueling stop we continue up the Dysynni valley and soon taking the bridleway off the B4405 down to shores of Tal-y-llyn Lake, where we followed the lanes through to Minffordd. After short time on the A 487 we off on old road which is bridleway and is worth doing if you in the area, we were soon at the summit of the pass with lovely view of the Dysynni valley. We headed along the A487 towards Dolgellau for about mile before turning on to Route 8 again which we followed into Dolgellau.

In Dolgellau we found one cafe that was still open at 4.00pm the other two we found were closing or closed.

After our coffee stop, headed out of Dolgellau along cycle track on old railway line which follow through to Penmaenpool and then Abergwynant before turning off the cycle track and heading back up to Kings Youth Hostel.
