Committee Meeting Report by Peter Kenner

Bridges Youth Hostel on the western flanks of the Long Mynd, welcomed 29 members and 2 future ‘ruffians’ - Amelia and Gwendolyn - for our committee, and late autumn meet. Our thanks to Angela, and her helpers, for coping and the excellent food provided. The weather, apart from a couple of  short showers on the Friday afternoon, held fair for some very good rough stuff.

The Committee meeting was, relatively, straight forward, the main discussion being about membership levels. Althrough at a slower rate than in the past it continues to decline and has now dipped below 600, a 40% drop over the past 15 years. Ideas were, and are sought to reverse this trend. Renewal letters are being rewritten, to make them more amenable, and new stand equipment  will be acquired to present a more  modern image. When the opportunity arises members should talk to other cyclists about the Fellowship. On recent rides I have met many who have never heard of us.

Initial reservations are in place at Sneaton Castle, Whitby for next Easter and members are requested to book early. It really is a spectacular venue.

The Alan Mepham Merit Shield is to be awarded to John Brewer, our Website Manager (Main RSF website), who has provided a lot of technical assistance to our Editor and undertakes one of  those ‘behind the scenes’ jobs that often get forgotten. Well done and many thanks John.

Finally, thank to Stuart Evans who has taken on the difficult task of reviving the North Wales Group. If you live anywhere near please give Stuart your support. And thanks also to Chris Wallace for all her hard work with the group.
