Executive Committee Meeting 2000

Easter 2001: Arrangements are well in hand for our Easter Meet at Penrith. An Accommodation list is available from me, please send an SAE.

Easter 2002: Yes, the year after next! Bob Callow has found a suitable hotel at Machynlleth in North Wales. This is an area with wealth of wonderful rough-stuff and the committee considered it to be a very good venue.

Alan Mepham Merit Shield: The shield has been awarded jointly to Linda Bussey and Rod Luhrs, for all the work they both done in various capacities.

RSJ 2000 Best Article and Sketch Competitions: Please could the judges of these competitions complete their marking as soon as possible and send the results to Simon Preston.

Menbership: It was reported that there was a slow decline in membership numbers, and that our current membership stands at just under 8000.

This produced considerable discussion. It was decided that we should re-start our regular advertisements in “Cycletouring”, and maybe other magazines.

Also under discussion was the ‘Rough-Stuff Journal’, being the main link between members as well as being an advertisement to non-members. After much discussion there was a proposal that the ‘Journal’ should be given a more modern up date layout and have more pages per issue than at present, but be produced four times a year rather than six. It would be very useful to have members’ opinions on these proposed changes.

RSF Jerseys: The quoted prices for jerseys from the new supplier were considered to be excessive, so reluctantly it was decided that no more new jerseys will be ordered. Alan Pocklington still has some of the old jerseys in stock, so as the old saying goes “buy now while stocks last!”.

Subscriptions: The committee is proposing a small increase in subscriptions to keep up with increasing costs.

Website: Due to new new family commitments Phil Cunningham is unable to continue looking after our website. John Whittaker has volunteered to take over the job. John admits that he is a beginner in this work so would welcome help and advice. If  any members are skilled in the art of web page design and understand the mysteries of HTML and would like to help, please could they contact me and I will put them in touch with John.
